UPDATE: Regarding Musical / Contest Play Cast. You may act in both shows with the following restriction: you may be chorus in one and lead in the other, but not have lead roles in both. This is new this year, so we all must make sure to communicate well so that all goes smoothly.
Regarding rehearsals, we will likely have an optional meeting over winter break, but rehearsals won't start until after break (mid-January). If you cannot make the audition tomorrow, but would still like to be a part, e-mail Mr. Miller or talk to him at the Drama Club Meeting on Wednesday. Break a leg! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Auditions for this year's Contest Play will be Tuesday Dec 9th after school at the OP Auditorium for Monologue Auditions. Callbacks will be on Thursday Dec 11th at 4pm in the Almond Black Box. I know the notice is short and it's right on the heels of the Children's Play and right before Finals, but aside from these two days, which do not take a great deal of time, there is not much else prior winter break. All interested in the cast and/or crew should fill out THIS FORM. Please let Mr. Miller know if you have any questions or concerns about the auditions. WHAT IS CONTEST PLAY? Contest Play is an IHSA Event in which schools prepare a 40-minute fully produced play (costumes, lights, sound, set, etc.) and compete in a Sectional and State Rounds. The Sectional Competition is March 20-21 Weekend with State (if we make it) the following weekend). We have performances at Warren the weekend of March 6th. In addition to Cast, we need a dedicated crew to help build, move, and run those show. We have 20 minutes, TOTAL, to set-up and strike the set. The Crew is incredibly important to this production. If you are interested in crew only, please fill out this Form to let Mr. Miller know. I'M INTERESTED IN THE MUSICAL. CAN I ALSO AUDITION FOR CONTEST PLAY? YES! This is new this year, and we are trying it on an experimental basis. It will take an incredibly dedicated individual to do both, but we are going to try and see if we can make it work this year. Please be mindful that being in both shows will be stressful and difficult, and that you will need to be responsible and communicative in order for the process to go smoothly. WHAT SHOULD I AUDITION WITH? Choose a monologue. Any monologue. You do NOT have to be memorized. I am looking for students who act. Who make choices, create a character, take a risk. Reciting lines well is not enough. Take a chance! That is more likely to get you a callback than just reciting lines. WHAT PLAY ARE WE PERFORMING FOR CONTEST PLAY? I don't know. And frankly, I like it that way. I have a pool of 5 or so plays that I'm thinking about, but I'd like to look at the pool of actors and choose those who rise above. Last year, I have a list of plays I was thinking about and ended up choosing a completely different one. This year, no plays. The final cast list will be posted with the name of the play. Contest play is my favorite thing I do each year. It's a great way to focus on a smaller work, and do it incredibly well. If you want to rise to the challenge, and bring Warren to State on the 20th Anniversary of winning the State Title, join Contest Play as a cast or crew! Please let Mr. Miller know if you have any questions. |
